Farmers Market Select (FMS) started development over 3 years ago in an effort to provide busy Kaiser Permanente West L.A. staff access to fresh produce from the La Cienega Farmers Market. FMS has come to fruition with the funding made available through Kaiser Permanente's generous Community Grants Program. FMS will be expanding in the near future to serve local communities surrounding other farmers markets that Sustainable Management Services operates.
The Model Neighborhood Program (MNP), is a Los Angeles based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1980 by local neighborhood association groups to improve the quality of life for Mid-City residents by providing supportive resources through its farmers markets and nutrition programs. Since opening its first farmers market twenty+ years ago, La Cienega Farmers Market, the MNP partnered with state and local social service departments becoming an early pioneer in providing access to farm fresh fruits and vegetables to program recipients in under-served communities. Today the MNP is one of five lead partners in Los Angeles County for the Market Match program, which provides additional funds to purchase farm fresh produce . In addition, the MNP was the first non-profit to open a farmers market at a Kaiser Permanente facility in Southern California, Kaiser WLA Farmers Market. Kaiser Permanente West L.A. co-founded the MNP and continues to provide valuable resources to local residents through various social services offered by MNP farmers markets. The MNP is the founder of farm-to-school nutrition programs, including Fresh Fruit on Fridays, now operating for seventeen years, as well as Super Salad Me. Currently, the MNP provides CNIP (CA Nutrition Incentives Program) funds to its EBT and WIC shoppers through its partnership with the Ecology Center's Market Match Program, and CDFA Farm to Fork.
